The UAE National Day 2026 holiday is shaping up to be one of the year’s most attractive short-break opportunities. With Eid Al Etihad falling midweek in December, travellers can turn the public holiday into a longer escape with carefully planned annual leave.
For anyone comparing UAE National Day trips from Dubai or Sharjah, eight destinations stand out: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Almaty, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka. They offer everything from snowy mountains and Silk Road cities to tropical beaches – and Satguru Travel currently has dedicated National day holiday packages covering all eight.
UAE National Day 2026 Dates: What the Break Looks Like
The official Eid Al Etihad 2026 holiday dates are Wednesday, 2 December, and Thursday, 3 December 2026.
For employees following a Saturday – Sunday weekend, taking Friday, 4 December as annual leave can create a five-day break from 2-6 December. Holiday-transfer rules can affect the final arrangement, so travellers should follow official announcements rather than assuming additional days off.
That also means waiting until the final announcement to book may not be the best strategy. National Day is a high-demand travel period, and airfares can rise significantly as departure dates approach.
Reasons To Travel This National Day 2026 – Real Advantages
1. A Possible 4-5 Day Break for One Leave Day
A single leave day on Friday can potentially connect the two-day public holiday with the weekend, giving many employees enough time for a proper international short break.
2. Short Flights Under Five Hours
Many of these destinations are within roughly two to five hours’ flying time from the UAE. Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are particularly practical when you want to spend more of the holiday exploring rather than travelling.
3. Visa-Easy Destinations for Many UAE Residents
Several destinations offer visa-free, visa-on-arrival or electronic visa arrangements to eligible nationalities. But there is no universal list of visa-free countries for UAE residents 2026: your passport nationality and residence status determine the actual requirement.
4. Winter Weather That Feels Like a Real Change
December brings a major change from UAE weather. Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan can deliver cold mountain scenery, while Sri Lanka provides the opposite – a warm tropical escape.
5. Culture, Nature and City Breaks in One Trip
You can explore Tbilisi’s historic streets, Baku’s modern skyline, Samarkand’s Silk Road architecture or Almaty’s surrounding mountains without needing a long holiday.
6. Packages That Remove the Planning Stress
Flights, hotels, transfers and sightseeing become harder to coordinate during peak dates. Pre-arranged National day holiday offers can bring the core components together under one booking.
Who Should Think Twice Before Travelling This National Day
A National Day trip may not suit travellers who cannot confirm leave, have passports requiring lengthy visa processing, or need highly flexible travel dates.
Families should also check school schedules, while travellers specifically chasing snow should avoid treating snowfall as guaranteed. Early December is winter in several destinations, but actual conditions vary by altitude and weather.
Visa Rules by Nationality for UAE National Day 2026 Trips
Visa eligibility should always be checked against your passport, not simply your Emirates ID.
Georgia provides favourable access to many eligible UAE residence-permit holders, subject to nationality-specific conditions. Armenia has visa-free, visa-on-arrival and eVisa arrangements depending on nationality and residence status. Kazakhstan also provides visa exemptions to several nationalities, including specific short-stay provisions.
Sri Lanka currently requires an ETA for foreign visitors, although nationals of 40 countries – including the UAE, India and several other major UAE expatriate nationalities – are eligible for a free 30-day tourist ETA under the scheme introduced in May 2026.
Check your individual requirements before paying for a non-refundable booking.
